What to expect

No experience needed — this is all about having fun and making something beautiful. I'll handle all the technical stuff!

🏺
Handmade pieces
Every piece was thrown or hand-built by me. You're painting something genuinely one-of-a-kind before it ever enters the kiln.
🎨
Underglaze painting
You'll use real ceramic underglazes — they look matte now but transform into gorgeous color once fired. Like magic!
I fire it for you
After the party, I'll apply a clear glaze over your design and fire it. You'll get a finished, food-safe, glossy piece to keep!
🍷
Sip & chill
Drinks, snacks, good music, great company. Zero pressure. Come to hang and leave with a piece of art.

How the night works

1
Pick your piece 🏺
When you arrive, browse the selection of handmade ceramics and pick whichever shape speaks to you — bowls, cups, small vases. First come, first served on the good stuff!
2
Plan your design 🖊️
Sketch it out on paper first if you like — or just go for it! There are reference books, pattern ideas, and I'll be around to help with inspiration. Abstract, geometric, florals, silly faces — all valid.
💡 Tip: Lighter colors show up better on bisqueware. Build up layers for depth!
3
Paint away 🎨
Dip your brush, apply underglaze, and make your mark. Colors look different wet vs. fired — I'll have color swatch samples so you know what you're actually getting. Don't worry about mistakes; they add character!
🖌️ Tip: 2–3 thin coats gives better, more even color than one thick one
4
Sign your work ✍️
Put your name or initials on the bottom — this is a real piece of pottery now! I'll let it dry completely and apply a clear glaze coat over everything.
5
Wait for the magic 🔥
I'll fire everything in my kiln after the party. It takes about a week or two depending on the firing schedule. Then I'll coordinate getting your finished piece back to you — food-safe, glossy, and gorgeous!
⏳ Expect pickup in about 1–2 weeks

Color & technique

Painting a ceramic piece
Building up layers of underglaze

Underglaze is more forgiving than you think — here are a few tips to help your piece turn out the way you're picturing it:

Terracotta & warm tones
Earthy reds and oranges tend to pop after firing. Great for botanical and folk-art styles.
Teals & blues
These are the most dramatic post-firing! They often deepen in color. Great for ocean or botanical themes.
Sage & greens
Soft greens stay pretty true to color. Pair with white negative space for a clean, modern look.
Deep navy & black
Strong contrast colors — great for outlines and detail work. Use sparingly for the biggest impact.

The kiln does the rest

Once everyone's gone home, here's what happens to your piece behind the scenes:

💨
Dry completely
I let all the pieces air dry fully so the underglaze sets — usually overnight
Clear glaze coat
I apply a food-safe clear glaze over your design — this is what gives it that glossy finish
🔥
Kiln firing
Everything goes into the kiln for a glaze firing — this is where colors transform and glass over
🏆
Your finished piece!
Food safe, dishwasher safe, gorgeous — and made by you (and a little bit by me)
